type of government- republic
head of state- Micheal D. Higgins
head of country- Micheal D. Higgins
Structure- The popularly elected president serves a 7 year term and has few executive powers. There is a prime minister aka the head of government which is called a Taoiseach. The legislature has 166 seats and a 60 seat senate. The highest part of court is the supreme court.
Political Landscape: Ireland has two parties, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.
Government and the people: The Irish Governement gives the people many freedoms such as freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of religion and assembly.
Although a Republic government isn't perfect, it has a give and take kind of system which is best for a civil country. It's important to have checks and balances so no branch has more power than needed.
